Animal Rights Not Considered

When you see and read about factory farming, it becomes clear that animal rights are definitely not taken into consideration, by the inhumane treatment the animals receive. An example being: calves that are used for veal are separated from their mothers when they are only a few days old, and placed in individual crates, or stalls, where they have barely enough room to move. They are somtimes chained by their necks to the crates or stalls, and suffer sickness and disease, until the time they are slaughtered.

Hog Factory Exposed

The Humane Farming Association is formally petitioning South Dakota Attorney General Lawrence Long to investigate and prosecute Sun Prairie and Bell Farms, operators of a massive factory hog farm located on Rosebud Sioux tribal lands in Mellette County, South Dakota.

Some of the charges are:

Sick and injured pigs are routinely dragged into narrow alleyways between pens where they are provided no food or water and are left to die of disease, starvation, and/or dehydration.

Those sick and injured pigs that are “euthanized” are frequently beaten to death with hammers and gate rods.

Overcrowding, neglect, and stressful living conditions have resulted in rampant cannibalism. Pigs are often eaten alive by pen mates, their only remains being skin and bones.

Livestock Feedlots

I believe something needs to be done about the inhumane conditions of livestock feedlots in our country. To see animals crowded together in a much too small area, with no place to stand or lie down except in their own waste, is appalling to me.

All livestock deserves a humane environment in which to live, and I believe there needs to be regulations (and enforcement of such) governing feedlots to ensure that environment.
